I was listening to Susan Boyle’s ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ album in the background this morning when my attention was suddenly drawn to the poignancy of the lyrics of 'You’ll See'. Enjoy! I looked up Madonna’s video version and decided to put that up instead.

The Deadbeat Ex!

In a recent BBC documentary, Jamelia says of her ex,

“I found out what he was really about after we divorced, when he took me to court to try and take away my hard-earned money. Thankfully, he didn't win.”

In recent times, not only are deadbeat dads a well understood social phenomenon but there is a secondary growing phenomenon – Deadbeat Exs! A number of women are battling with this moral degeneration. I should know! These retrograde men who have not been able to provide for themselves seem to have no shame when greed knocks at their door. More and more men are brazenly going after women’s wealth, property, assets and money when a marriage ends. These good-for-nothings will stop at nothing to get what they want. Not even the thought of stealing from their own children will stop them.

Previously, the common perception about divorce was that wives usually took their husbands to the cleaners but these days more and more women are finding the opposite to be true, despite the fact that the women are mostly left holding the babies of the union.

One way to look at the turpitude of this phenomenon is that women have come a long way to be able to hold their own in relation to men. Traditionally, men have been the breadwinners and hence the party with more wealth at the end of a marriage. Thumps up to women!

According to one divorce specialist, Ruth Smallacombe, “The general belief that men get fleeced by their divorces while women get richer and live off the proceeds has long been due for exposure as a pernicious myth.”

So what has brought about the detestable deadbeat ex? After all, most women would attest to the fact that there is nothing attractive about a man who cannot provide. Not being able to provide is one thing. But extending the decadence to going after a woman’s hard-earned wealth is another. It is the absolute pits and any such man deserves to be left!
